External view of church building after remodel Item Info

Title:
External view of church building after remodel
Date Created:
circa 1974
Description:
Following an extensive renovation by parishioners, 348 West 14th Street became the permanent home of the Church of the Beloved Disciple and the center of its ministry to New York City's LGBTQ community. Dedicated in October 1973, the former commercial building was transformed into a church through the labor and financial support of its members, creating one of the first permanently owned houses of worship established by an openly LGBTQ Christian congregation in New York City. From this sanctuary, the church celebrated the Eucharist, ordained clergy, and became a center of LGBTQ religious life and independent Catholic ministry in New York.
